Hi, I'm Mat.

I've been making things out of wood since high school — back when my dad's shed was the workshop and trial and error was the only teacher. No formal training, just curiosity and a refusal to give up on a piece of timber.

Now at 57 and semi-retired, I've finally got the time to do it properly. What used to be a hobby tucked around everything else has become what I actually do — out in the workshop, working with some of the most beautiful hardwood Australia has to offer.

I make things people actually use. Not ornaments you bring out for special occasions — boards that live on your bench, get used every day, and get better looking the more you use them.

Every piece is built from sustainably sourced Australian hardwood — blackwood, blackbutt, and whatever else catches my eye. No two boards are the same. That's the point.

Every board leaves the workshop finished with Gilly's chopping board oil — an Australian-made, food-safe oil that brings out the natural colour of the grain. The good news is Gilly's is easy to get hold of, so keeping your board in great condition for years is straightforward. A light re-oil every now and then is all it takes.
